At Kendojo we believe that developing and maintaining a sound body and mind are critical to getting the most out of life. To strengthen your body, you will begin with isometric and dynamic tension exercises. Flexibility will be enhanced through a gradual building process of safe and easy stretching techniques. TAEKWONDO - 7 - ADULT

 

Tae kwon do is a Korean martial arts and the world's most popular martial art in terms of the number of practitioners. It is also probably the best “stand up” fighting martial arts.

 

Taekwondo's popularity has resulted in the divergent evolution of the martial art. Taekwondo is a complete discipline martial art, that has a combination of combat techniques, self-defence, sport, exercise, entertainment, stretching and philosophy. Taekwondo has strong principles that each practitioner must adhere to.

Taekwondo in general emphasises on kicks thrown from a mobile stance, using the leg's greater reach and power to strike an opponent from a larger distance rather than punching or other techniques. In sparring, turning, back, front, reverse turning and side kicks are often used, as well as punching and advanced kicking, which may involve jumping, spinning or sliding.

 

This is a dynamic art with high kicks, powerful punching techniques, and traditional patterns. It is ideally suited to those who wish to develop above average levels of fitness and flexibility. This is very popular with children because of its visual appeal.

 

KICK BOXING

 

Kickboxing is a dynamic sport, evolving from the practice of many different Martial Arts. It is a recent sport, originating in the US during the 1970's. Essentially it is boxing with kicks (Karate/Kung Fu/Tae Kwon Do) - combining Western and Eastern techniques.

 

Footwork, kicks, punches, blocking techniques and fighting tactics are taught. Pupils' skills are perfected by sparring (controlled, equipped contact practice) with other students, in order to learn how to judge distances, timing and contact.

 

Kickboxing improves fitness, flexibility and stamina - an excellent workout that's safe and fun. The lesson begins with a 10 minute warm-up, which incorporates punching and blocking. After a 7-10 minute stretch, the remainder of the class involves kicking and punching - either in the 'air', or onto focus mitts.

New ideas and techniques are introduced week by week. The first classes should be treated as a starting block. Starting from the basic stance, students learn the Kickboxing moves step by step. Special attention is given so that all involved are learning at a speed that is suited to them. Every lesson provides new Kickboxing tips and advice.

 

Our lessons meet the demands of the experienced and fit, as well as complete beginners and those of us whom could be fitter. All the classes will push you consistently through new limits, although you will be encouraged to choose your own pace throughout the session. Provided protective equipment is purchased, the majority of our lessons incorporate sparring, semi-contact fighting.

 

Fitness will undoubtedly improve within the first few weeks as the body is strengthened and conditioned. Every muscle in your body will become more defined. Be prepared to ache a little after the first class, as you will discover muscles that have never been used before.

The opportunity to follow the Kickboxing Syllabus and take Gradings is possible, advancing belt by belt up to black belt standard. Perhaps just improving your fitness is of interest to you - your choice - you are free to clearly define your own goals. The classes are there for your benefit and can therefore be tailored to your needs.

 

LITTLE DRAGONS

 

Lil’Dragons Programme is an age specific martial arts programme, catering to children ages 4-6 years old. Lil’Dragons is more than just martial arts, but an incorporation of Life and Safety skills, making it one of the most elite children’s martial arts programmes in the World. This programme trains children to be good upstanding citizens and gives them an excellent foundation for a lifetime. It includes units in safety and life skills, which develops them socially, emotionally, physically, and stretches them intellectually. Other topics covered indirectly are:
